The Ripple Effect: The Power of PRIDE – A ripple effect occurs when an initial disruption to a system circulates outward to disturb an increasingly larger portion of the system, like ripples expanding across the water when an object is dropped into it. This presentation allows students to reflect on who they are and what they can do in this world. It offers an honest reflection of how their words, actions and behavior can have negative and positive impacts on people around them. Using the acronym PRIDE (Performance, Respect
, Integrity
, Determination
, Excellence) students are taken on an interactive learning process in a safe and healthy environment.

The “Bystander Bully”– Bullying today is much more extensive and pervasive given the nature of our times. Although most bystanders take a passive approach and simply watch and do nothing, some bystanders take on an active role by cheering and encourage the negative behavior. This powerful program focuses on the various types of roles and functions bystanders take in the bullying process and how to motivate and encourage those standing on the sidelines to get ‘into the game’ and be proactive and do something about it.

High School

Lead with PRIDE – provides team leaders in athletics/clubs/band an opportunity to learn positive leadership skills and how to build a sense of team without using forms of hazing to degrade, humiliate and hide behind the context of “rite of passage.” It encourages leaders to stand up to the powerful temptations of the negative forms of leadership. The presentation promotes harmony and team through valuable processes used to engage one another as appropriate teammates and peers.

Locker Room Talk & Hazing – Bullying is everywhere—in our schools, our streets, and our corporations. But in the world of sports, bullying rules. Whether you realize or not, hazing is very likely happening to some extent in your athletic department. Fifty percent of college students experience hazing in high school, primarily through sports. The number one location it occurs is in the locker room. This workshop focuses on the old saying “What’s said in the locker room, stays in the locker room.” But what if the comments are abusive, homophobic, and sexually objectify others?

Diversity Training: From Tolerance to Acceptance – Tolerance is a “have to” while Acceptance is a “want to.” In this vital workshop, Coach Randy encourages students to use honor, integrity, tradition, and pride to promote personal dignity and self-respect. He challenges individuals to go beyond tolerance and become strongholds of respect, hope, and acceptance. With practical tips for success, Coach Randy motivates students to work harder, aim higher, and create a community of inspiration.

Sexual Harassment in the #MeToo Movement – Today’s student is bombarded with nearly 10,000 images over the course of the day, often sexual in nature. Whether through social media, advertising, or other streams of images, the subtle gender directed messages are over-whelming for nearly anyone. This presentation focuses on Title IX Legislation addressing types of sexual harassment, psychological impact, raising awareness, and intervention, prevention and responding strategies.

College

Cultural Diversity & Race Relations – In this vital workshop, Coach Randy encourages students to use honor, integrity, tradition, and pride to promote personal dignity and self-respect. He challenges individuals to go beyond tolerance and become strongholds of respect, hope, and acceptance. With practical tips for success, Coach Randy motivates students to work harder, aim higher, and create a community of inspiration.

Hazing – Hazing is everywhere—in our schools, our colleges, and professional sports. But in Greek life, hazing rules. Therefore, hazing is very likely happening to some extent in your fraternity/sorority. Fifty percent of college students experience hazing in high school creating an environment that is conducive for continued behavior.  This workshop focuses on the old saying “How pledges are treated stays in the room.” But what if the comments are abusive, homophobic, and sexually objectify others? Or worse yet, force pledges to drink excessively, promotes deviant behavior, and places willing young college students in compromising positions?

The Bully in Me – Helping faculty identify how they contribute to bullying – Gossip. Sarcasm. Playing favorites.  Teasing.  These are only a few ways teachers unknowingly contribute to the culture of bullying. Whether through the socialization of students, accepting inappropriate behavior from select individuals, or poor role modeling, teachers sometimes inadvertently participate in bullying.  Designed to raise awareness of this sensitive topic, this program allows educators to confront an important component of bullying and take proper steps to address it.

Character Education: The New Frontier in High School Athletics provides an increased awareness on the importance of life lessons and the ability to disseminate those learning opportunities through athletics. High School coaches are educators first and must be held accountable to that role in a student athlete’s life. Coach Randy’s presentation identifies the role of an effective character educating coach, the balance between winning and life lessons, and encourages coaches to empower players to become “Upstanders” and leaders addressing racism, harassment, intimidation and bullying in their school community.

Be a Game Changer Anti-Harassment Training: From Bystander to Upstander – Employees must be able to identify and combat harassment in their place of work. Many states now require businesses to offer anti-harassment training. Upstander training forces individuals to examine their own personal beliefs, attitudes and values. Then it identifies the common fears workers face when speaking up – Retaliation, Reputation, Relationships. Going from Bystander to Upstander requires effective communication training that addresses microaggressions, ability to identify red flags, and proper intervention techniques.

The PRIDE Program

PRIDE and against a “win-at-all- cost” mentality. It promotes a reasonable, healthy environment for athletes of all ages to learn, compete, grow as a player, be with their friends, and have fun through sports. With PRIDE®, we strive to win, while also pursuing the more important goals of teaching life lessons through sports. While winning is important, learning to compete is much more essential. PRIDE (Performance – “Adversity Provides Growth” Respect – “Positive Attitude” Integrity – “Accepts Responsibility” Determination – “There Are No Mistakes” Excellence – “Effort and Attitude.” Research has proven that athletes who are coached with in a more positive environment have reduced anxiety, increased self-confidence, and perform better at practices and games.

Play with PRIDE – Players

Coach with PRIDE – Coaches – Coaches play a critical factor in a student athlete’s life. Coaches are encouraged to become aware of their style & behavior, while simultaneously holding their players’ accountable for their conduct on and off the court. The coach-player relationship is one of the most valuable assets in addressing the culture within schools. There are two broad goals in Coaching with PRIDE®– striving to win and building character so kids develop into successful, contributing members of our community.

Parent with PRIDE – A consumer mentality has infiltrated sports. Parents invest large sums of money to provide their player an advantage. As a result, there is an expectation of a return on that investment. Players experience increased stress, coaches are confronted, and spectators go uncontrolled. There are two broad goal – striving to win and building character so players develop into successful, contributing members of our community. As important as winning may seem, Parenting with PRIDE® allows coaches and athletes to worry about the first goal striving to win. Parenting with PRIDE® has a much more meaningful role to play ensuring your player takes away from sports the lessons that will help her be successful in life.

Bullying in Sports

Bullying in Sports: The Injuries We Don’t See – Provides an increased awareness on bullying and the various types of behavior that is often associated with in sports.  Coach Randy’s presentation identifies the bully culture that exists within sports, identifies the types of bullies (Bully Coach, Bully Parent & Bully Player), identifies warning signs of being bullied and/or aggressive behavior, lists effective strategies for dealing with conflict and prejudice, and encourages coaches to empower players to become “Upstanders” and leaders in their school community.
